Why your business needs a website

Not because everyone has one. Because the person deciding whether to call you is looking you up first, and what they find settles it.

The honest answer

Because the decision is made before anyone calls you

Someone gets your name from a neighbour, a van, a Facebook post or a Google search. Almost none of them ring straight away. They look you up first, on a phone, usually within a minute of hearing about you.

What they find in that minute decides whether they call. If there is a clear site with your work, your area and your prices, you are in. If there is nothing, or a page that has not been touched since 2019, they carry on down the list. The job is lost quietly, and you never hear about it.

Five reasons that hold up

What a website actually does for a small business

  • It makes you findable at 11pmPeople search when it suits them, not when your phone is on. A website answers the basic questions while you sleep.
  • It settles the trust questionA tidy site with real photos and real prices tells a stranger you are a proper business, not a phone number and a hope.
  • It filters out the wrong enquiriesPublish your area, your services and a price range and you stop wasting evenings quoting jobs you were never going to take.
  • It is the one thing you ownSocial platforms change their rules constantly. Your website does not disappear because an algorithm shifted.
  • It compoundsEvery month it is live, Google understands your business a little better and shows you to a few more people nearby.

The usual objections

What business owners tell us, and what we say back

"All my work comes from word of mouth"

Good, and it should stay that way. But word of mouth ends with someone typing your name into Google. A website is what catches that recommendation instead of dropping it.

"I get enough work as it is"

Then use the site to get better work. When people can see your prices and your standards before they call, the enquiries that arrive are the ones worth having.

"I have a Facebook page already"

Useful, but it is rented ground. You cannot rank a Facebook page for the searches that matter locally, and plenty of your customers are not on it at all.

"Websites are expensive"

The old ones were. Fifteen pounds a month is less than your phone contract, and unlike an agency retainer there is nothing to sign and nothing to cancel out of.

"I am not technical"

You do not need to be. There is no dashboard to learn and no plugin to update. You email us a change and it happens.

"I tried Wix and gave up"

Most people do. Building your own site is a job in itself, and it is not your job. We do the building, you do the thing you are actually good at.

Being good is not the same as being found

The businesses winning local searches are rarely the best in town. They are the ones whose website makes it obvious what they do and where they do it, and whose Google Business Profile is filled in properly.

That is a solvable problem, and it does not take a big budget. It takes correct page titles, a page for each service, honest location wording and a site fast enough that Google is happy to send people to it. All of which is included on every plan we offer.

One extra job a month pays for the website twice over.

You do not need the site to transform the business. You need it to win you one customer a month, and then it has already paid for itself.
